EMDR: Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing

EMDR is an evidence-based trauma therapy intervention that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences through the use of bilateral stimulation. Repeated studies show that by using EMDR therapy people can experience the benefit of psychotherapy that once took years to make a difference.

Internal family systems theory

IFS is an integrated approach to psychotherapy developed by Richard Swartz that is based in systems thinking, family systems theory and parts work. IFS takes on the viewpoint that we all have an internal family system, or sub-personality parts, with their unique feelings and values that when addressed and revealed in therapy, can heal and become more harmonious and integrated in their interaction, facilitated by the “true self”.

Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy

Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) is a modified form of cognitive therapy that incorporates mindfulness practices such as meditation and breathing exercises. MBCT treats anxiety and depression through teaching clients how to work directly with anxiety and depression symptoms through cultivating mindfulness (awareness of the present moment, somatic skills).  Using these tools, therapists teach clients how to break away from negative thought patterns that can cause a downward spiral into depressed and anxious states.

Grief Therapy

Based on the research of psychologist Alan D. Wolfelt, Ph.D. the therapist takes a companioning approach to working with a client who has suffered a recent loss. Companioning can translate to “being with” where the therapist joins the mourner with a compassionate heart and walks on their grief journey with them, offering direction and hope along the way when needed. Psychoeducation and clinical interventions are utilized when indicated within this broader mindset of companioning the bereaved.

Attachment Based Psychotherapy

Attachment based psychotherapy utilizes the therapeutic relationship between therapist and client as a model for secure attachment, exploring attachment styles. and working through attachment ruptures in the safe, secure environment of the therapeutic relationship.
